This series truly is a unique experience. I had heard rumors in the community about it being the funniest anime of all time & I just had to see what the hype was about. It looked like one of those strange anime that would take funny to a creepy level of uneasy. Kusuo Saiki is just a nonchalant teenage psychic who continues to read the minds of his family & peers throughout his high school experience. My first impression of Kusuo right of the bat is that he was a kind and intelligent kid. All Kusuo wants is to live his life peacefully in his thoughts while eating sweets. He doesn’t abuse his psychic powers and use them to control others(well at least not if he doesn’t have to🤫). He is a pretty wholesome MC & I like how monotone & unbothered he always is. It adds comedy because of him being so calm & quiet, while the others around him raise hell at any given moment. Kuso as a character has such an interesting design as well. I’ve seen hella people cosplay as him online & at cons. It’s just a look that stands out & others can’t miss.

The fact that he makes his look seem normal to others because of the way he’s wired others to perceive him is crazy. Bro normalized the colored hair and antennas in his society. You get to know further that this kid really runs the world and is the balance for all of the happenings throughout the series. A gift & a curse is what he holds and he still chooses to be a good guy, with fellow great & weird companions along the way.

Everyone likes Saiki! You can tell the intent with this serious was to bring comedy & wholesomeness as one. Saiki has his challenges of fitting in with others & hiding the fact that he’s a psychic kid. Knowing all the thoughts of your friends could seem like a huge advantage but at the same time, what a horrifying way to live. You hear everything & know all. No matter how quiet & reserved Saiki is, he always seems to attract very enthusiastic & energetic people and that’s the whole comedic bit. He seems to stumble across situations he wants no parts of ALL the time. I think his best friends Nendo & Kaido are the funniest anytime they are in the anime because Nendo is just a big dumbass with a heart and Kaido is delusional but also cares for his bro Saiki a lot. Both quirky but they seem to find their way always regardless.

Nendo’s mind is the only mind Kusuo can’t read. He’s just too dense & stupid for any legitimate thoughts to appear which strangely comforts Kusuo because he feels normal around him. I also like the female characters like Teruhashi who acts as the superficial popular girl in the series that lives for the attention & knows her worth on the inside. Having her chase Kusuo around because he’s not interested in her is another funny bit from this series that i thoroughly enjoyed lol. To be honest, most of the character interactions with Kusuo are funny because each one of them are unique and you know what each of them bring to the episode. They might even break the 4th wall a few times.

When it comes to anime that brings comedy full force, I’ve seen a ton. From #Gintama I’ve seen the wackiest of shows have humor be their strongest plot device. It just feels different with The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K. The comedy is the biggest part of the series. It’s a series that flows with different sections each episodes. Like Family Guy or American Dad where they have different bits per episode but it still flows in a timeline, if that makes any sense. It keeps it fresh without forcing anything and lingering on the same concept for too long. Some of the behavior in this series is cringe and off putting but most of it makes you laugh even when you’re trying not to. The unexpected is what gives this series the edge in comedic popularity. Expect NOTHING. Knowing that Saiki himself can manipulate any situation he wants at any given moment is funny in itself. It shows that he just doesn’t care and allows the crazy behavior around him. To me it shows that his character wants a normal crazy high school life, even though he could literally snap his fingers and change it all to his liking if he wanted.

It shows that despite his rare abilities, he’s still just a kid who wants normality in his own life and to blend in with his friends and family. It’s respectable and you can see that it was part of the theme that the author was pushing through the development of his character. Saiki acts cold and unbothered but he truly does care about others and wants the ones he cares about to win. Or at least give em’ a little push in the right direction if he can!

𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨 𝐁𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞? 𝐖𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐁𝐞 𝐀 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 ●~*

I’d recommend this series to anyone looking for a great comedy anime to binge and is not afraid of some pretty wild commentary. The jokes range from mild to hell. Pick your poison. The series has an English dub for season 1 which I found funny but the second & last season of the series is no dub which is what most preferred anyway. I do believe that this anime is one of the few though to have a pretty decent English dub with voices that meet the expectations of how chaotic this series is. The energy is for sure matched. So many memorable characters and lines in this series that I still laugh at how cleverly they pulled it off. For the future of anime, I hope we get more of these style comedy anime because they hit different and aren’t completely cringe & corny.

Most anime nowadays compensates the lack of originality in humor and value due to the overload of fan service or rushed plot. There are so many underrated anime made by equally talented creators out there who put 100% into their work and it shows by the final results. The more underrated anime has a longer lasting impact on me than many of the popular ones I know. Being able to laugh is a big reason why I’m a fan of anime in the first place and to genuinely crack up at a series is rare. This one just did it justice.
