“More Than Meets the Yawn: The Hidden Heart of Hitch Dreyse”

When most people think of Hitch Dreyse, they think of someone who’s always half a step from falling asleep. A lazy sigh, a sarcastic quip, a patrol she’d rather skip; Hitch has made an art of doing just enough to stay out of trouble. But behind that practiced smirk and devil-may-care attitude is a woman who’s seen far more than she lets on.

Hitch ed the Military Police not out of ambition, but out of pragmatism. She didn’t dream of glory like the Survey Corps, nor crave the discipline of the Garrison. She just wanted a quiet life, preferably with a bed close by.

But the world didn’t stay quiet for long.

She survived Stohess District during Annie Leonhart’s rampage (a former roommate turned Titan). It shook her. Not just the destruction, but the betrayal. Hitch had always played it cool, but losing someone you shared meals and secrets with, even if they annoyed you, leaves a scar you don’t talk about.

After the fall of Wall Rose, Hitch was one of the few Military Police officers who stuck around when things got ugly. She helped civilians evacuate. She cleaned up rubble. She even fought, once or twice, though she’d never it it out loud. And when earnest and idealistic Marlowe ed the Survey Corps, Hitch didn’t stop him. She rolled her eyes, she teased him, but when the news came back that he’d died in battle, she cried. Alone. Quietly.

These days, Hitch isn’t the lazy soldier people think she is. She’s the last one standing from her squad. She holds her chin high, not because she’s proud, but because someone has to. She may complain about paperwork, about patrols, about her sore feet... but she still shows up. She still helps. And she still believes, in her own way, that there’s a future worth fighting for.

So the next time you see her leaning against a wall, arms crossed and eyebrows raised, don’t assume she’s doing nothing.

She’s just thinking. Waiting. Watching. And if the world goes to hell again?

You can bet Hitch Dreyse will still be standing when the dust clears, probably with a sarcastic remark and a mop in her hand.
