Everyone is egoistic in their own ways, if it means people boasting about there looks or others may keep it in. In my eyes everyone is egoistic even if u don't show it because I can relate to it, I'm not arrogant about my looks or personality but to me I'm as close to perfect.
The definition of egoism is as follows:
“excessive concern for oneself with or without exaggerated feelings of self-importance.”
The definition of self love:
“regard for one's own well-being and happiness (chiefly considered as a desirable rather than narcissistic characteristic).”
Self love is the act of loving oneself to their full extent. You love yourself completely (including your flaws) for who you were, for who you are, and for who you will become. Self love is love that includes regarding one’s well being. You accept your flaws and you accept that you are not perfect. You are no god. You are no idol. You are just a human. You are just a regular person who can make mistakes.
Egoism is the act of putting yourself on a pedestal or thinking yourself as more important than anyone else. It’s a different type of love than self love. Some would say it isn’t even love at all. It’s just fake love. In this “love” (egoism) you lift yourself up by shoving others down. You only think of yourself.
Your needs and your wants are the number one priority. No one else’s needs or wants are ever looked at. Egoism can stem from insecurities. You could be trying to mask your flaws because you think: if they are ignored, and if you hide them, they won’t exist.
I think only the final product looks similar, but the things they stem from are completely different. Self love is accepting yourself the way you are but also accepting that you're not perfect and that you can work on your flaws to become a better person. Egoism is denying your flaws, putting yourself on a pedestal, pulling down others to make yourself feel better. It comes from insecurity, lack of love, etc. Unlike self love, which in my opinion needs confidence and courage, but also the ability to be use your flaws to encourage yourself to improve rather then hide them and hinder your personal growth. Egoism is definitely not a product of self love. Egoism is, in a way, its opposite - we lie to ourselves to escape from doubting ourselves and feeling insecure. After all, it's much easier than self love. However, on the long run self love is much more worth it, and egoism can get to your head, unlike self love can. If we're talking about a pure form of self love, it can never be confused with egoism.

Sorry to sound boring, but this isn't a new thought. The thing about it is that ego is the strongest part of our mind. Love however, works both ways.
It says in the bible that you should love your neighbour like you love yourself. That means that if self love prevent you from loving others, its egoism.
Loving yourself the way our boys sing it, must mean the same thing: love yourself even if you're not perfect, so you can love others even if they're not perfect.
Egoism wouldn't find anyone else interesting or worth the effort. That will one day be very bad for people who follow egoism, you will be lonely. It's easy to be fooled though.
A healthy self appreciation free us to go out and love others .
You have a very good discussion going here, this is a very important thing to notice!
