Well good morning, afternoon or evening my brothers and sisters in Christ!

Hey y'all, I'm on a roll with making icons now. Anyways this was originally supposed to be a gift to someone at my parish, because... Why not. I want to make icons for other people by just gifting or them commissioning me. But unfortunately when I asked if they wanted it, they said... "You don't have to" so... I even got commissioned last week but the style of the icon was way above my skill level so I had to refuse .⁠·⁠´⁠¯⁠`⁠(⁠>⁠▂⁠<⁠)⁠´⁠¯⁠`⁠·⁠.. Anyways that's all for my little rant about it.

𝔚𝔥𝔬 𝔦𝔰 𝔖𝔞𝔦𝔫𝔱 𝔖𝔭𝔶𝔯𝔦𝔡𝔬𝔫?

Spyridon was born in Cyprus, where he worked as a shepherd (he wears a shepherd's hat). He married and had one daughter. Upon the death of his wife, he entered a monastery, and his daughter, Irene, ed a convent.

Spyridon was made Bishop of Trimythous, in the district of Larnaca. In 325, he was called to appear at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, where the Arian heresy was being addressed.

(Arianism: the big dumb dumb Arius said that there was a time when the Son was not—meaning that the Incarnate God, the Son, Christ, is actually a created being. God, but with a beginning.)

Later, during a separate theological debate, a pagan philosopher came forward to challenge the Christian bishops. Despite their knowledge, none of them could refute him effectively. But in the midst of them, Spyridon stood up with a tile in his hand (some say it was a brick) and explained how 3 can be in 1—and we can even observe it in the nature of things. Flame burst out of the tile, then water poured from the bottom, and when he opened his hand, the only thing that remained was dust. The philosopher, stunned by this miracle and Spyridon's simplicity, immediately converted.

After the council, he returned to Cyprus and fell asleep in the Lord due to old age in 348, on December 12th. Today, his incorrupt body can be found in Saint Spyridon's Church.

Saint Spyridon, defender of our faith and hero of the first Council. Intercede for us all so that we may protect our faith and its purity like how you did. Keep us in your prayers so that we may remain humble at all times.
