How My Approach to Spiritwork Has Changed

When it comes to approaching spirits, my approach has moved from focusing more on calling out to focusing more on feeling. In the past, I would prepare and carry my protection, lay out some thyme, and call out to spirits of the area to come forth while I used some tarot cards. While I may have some impactful encounters that way, it was less experiential, less filled with supernatural, witchy fulfillment, and meaningful encounters when I did that.

Nowadays, I focus less on the calling forth part and more on paying attention. I work on my own psychic abilities and confidence as a witch to build up my craft and refine my skills in preparation for working with spirits. That way, I can listen, feel, see, and open up myself and the area to the spirits I’m working with on a deeper level. The spirits are able to send messages easier and through means of their choosing as well as affect the environment easier. This has made the difference between (this is metaphorical) calling someone over the phone to meeting someone in person.

I also get specific with what kind of spirit I’m approaching and change my approach to fit that spirit. I don’t use the same ritual to work with any spirit. I show an effort to understand them and hear them through research and practice outside of simply calling them forth. It helps me define a specific approach for a specific spirit.

Of course, I still use protection (perhaps even more mindful than the protection I used in the beginning).

P.S. to make offerings. I didn’t mention that in this post, but that’s not to suggest it should be ignored. Look into that kind of stuff and see what works for you and the spirits you work with.

I’m glad that’s working well for you! I’ve been looking to move in a similar direction myself... I’ve gotten a lot more practice with sending messages than receiving them, and communication involves both.
