Greetings babies! It’s been awhile because mamas a spoonie (disabled and live at home) and my meds have been late and messed up. I managed to squeeze out a autumn solstice post, and I will be posting tomorrow about my sabbath meal and how I celebrate the Samhain season. This is about dia de Los meurtos and insensitive costumes!
My twin flame who is now my fiancé is Hispanic, so I’ve made it my job as a white leftist to raise my future kids knowing their real heritage and ancestors. And was both enlightened and angered by what I learned in my digging.
Did you know that dia de Los muertos was a MONTH LONG? And in August?!?! A full month of honoring, ing and partying. It was forced down to one day in November by Christian colonizers.
Truth About Dia De Los Meurtos
To learn that I’ve been celebrating a sacred day wrong because someone thought their faith was right over the indigenous’ faith. It makes my blood boil. I kinda can’t undo my celebration plans so late. So next year and for the foreseeable future I will have a dia de Los meurtos altar and sabbath meal on August. I’ll have the sabbath meal be the last day of August and will have a more traditional dia de Los meurtos altar.
And please be mindful of not wearing dia de Los meurtos wear if you are not of the faith.
Halloween is for fun. Before you do a costume think: have innocent people been hurt for being what I’m dressed as? Will I get in trouble with my work or family for posting this? Will people be traumatized by this? Have people lost family and ancestors to this?
If you answered yes to any Of those you need to immediately change your costume. Here’s also few examples I’ve found through personal experience and talking to people of said race and faiths.
-dead witches, holocaust victims
-dressing as hitler or any sort of toxic politician who asked for innocent deaths
-dressing as a gypsy or voodoo priest without being Romani, Haitian or African
-dres as another race with skin paint that’s not your natural color
-sugar skull makeup
Please don’t argue. These are all requests from people of these races and faiths. I wouldn’t repeat this if I haven’t read it everywhere due to the time of year. The only excuse you have is being of that race or family mentioned. Like I practice some Hispanic spirituality cus my twin flame and new family is Mexican. I’m Hellenic, one of the few closed faiths open to those not from that race.

Interesting post. Agree with most of it, but we all have the right to our thoughts and beliefs. Just one simple correction, it’s Día de los Muertos, not meurtos

Jewish and occultists are killed to this very day for our faiths and Haitians and romani were killed for racial reasons there’s 0 excuse to not adhere to us asking you not dress as oppressed races and faiths

And that is yet another problem. Asking anyone to “adhere” to what you (and society) say is “right” is also wrong. People have a right to be whom ever the choose to be, and yes that also includes a**holes. If someone wants to become the next Hitler then that’s why there are laws in place, and most of us do not want to be that.
Just because you’re “nice” doesn’t give you the right to obligate others into being nice. EVERYONE has a right to express themselves regardless if it “triggers” other people or not, otherwise you’re wanting to control society and that, in my opinion, is very wrong.
I do have a couple questions though. When you say “And you are one person” does my opinion not count? Do you only take into consideration the opinions of those that agree with you? I am surrounded by Mexicans. We mostly don’t care as long as it’s done respectfully.
And I’m not angry at all. All I’m doing is expressing myself trying to get others to see a different perspective. I have absolutely no reason to be be upset. I’m seeing this as a healthy discussion that is all.

Being nice and adhering to common decency literally is law that’s why you can be arrested for free speech if it’s related to hate crimes and hate speech aka based on race, gender, sex faith ect. and you’re deemed a credible threat.
This isn’t me saying that you can’t like blue cuz I like red.
It’s me saying you shouldn’t do race-face and dress as people who are killed for who they are.
This isn’t difficult to understand. I can understand not being as strict with the dia de Los muertos thing, tbh. But not with what else I said.
Halloween is my favourite time of the year !!! I love it so much
The whole autumn season is so full of such rich death and remembrance holidays I love it
