I’m so excited for this #OWC this has probably got to be the biggest challenge curated yet, good job leaders!
I like to think of myself as a bit of an artist, and once I saw the ‘draw a crest Hogwarts style’ I got pretty excited. This is going to be my process!
Traits:
- expressive
- social yet kinda not
- communicative
- idealistic
- curious
- quick thinkers
- can be pretty WACC people
I looked up the traits of air signs and found these. At this point I realized that I forgot about the mascot. Taking a look at these traits, I thought that faeries suited it pretty well and decided to use them.
I drew up some quick concept sketches.
I played around around with how I want the faerie positioned. Should they be standing in a straight position? What are they doing? Are they interacting with something?
I then pointed out flaws for some of the concepts I wasn’t too keen on.
Concept 1:
- boring, a little too plain
- so much space!
- looked very dead and lifeless
Concept 3:
- the shield is kind of boring
- maybe a little too relaxed?
I had a really hard time choosing between 2 and 3. I liked how they both interacted with the banner, it made the piece exciting. Then I thought about body language, and how that can show what a person was like.
This made me really torn between the two, I really like both of them and couldn’t decide what I wanted, so I left that for later while I worked on the shield, and the banner.
Next I kept aspects of the shield that I liked from the 3 concepts.
Shield:
- keep the crown with the air sign
- keep the big and wide shield opposed to the skinny one
Banner:
- make it more flowy and air like gotta keep the air
- keep the A that looks pretty cool ngl
I changed the banner a bit so it would look like it was more flowy and blowing in the wind. My hand sort of flipped out for the A part but then I looked at and thought ‘huh, you know that actually looks pretty cool’ so fixed it up a bit, and boom, happy little accident.
I was going to colour it, but I did a mock up and it looked ass. It looked a lot more water then air, so I think I’ll just colour the banner and the crown. I may also do lineart, depending of my shakey hand can get its act together.
I’ve decided that I’m going to do concept 2, with 3’s banner. This the final product:
I know that it doesn’t look very good, I have a more realistic style and am not very used to drawing living things in a non realistic style. I do like the shield and the banner though. I also like how I unintentionally added a hint of angel in the drawing with the banners ends. Also please don’t make fun of my sloppy drawing, I will cry lol.
