Icarus, Icarus,
Of tale and song,
Caught in the claws of right and wrong,
Mothers speak your tale with fright,
Whilst you burn in your delight.
Icarus, Icarus,
Brave and fair,
Seeking what was never there,
Drunk on thoughts of being free,
Dreaming days of liberty.
Icarus, Icarus,
Kindle flames
On which your father casts his blame,
Daedalus does not intend
To set you past his sights again.
Icarus, Icarus,
Watch your wings!
Gold gleams not on silver things,
Pinions are not dressed in cracks,
Your silken wings are made of wax.
Icarus, Icarus,
Touch the sun,
So that you may now outrun
The maze, the crown, the hammer's blow
Who tells you where you can not go.
Icarus, Icarus,
Burst in fire,
Your embers string my holy lyre,
Descend upon the raging sea,
You are not a tragedy.

i do have a soft spot for poems with meter and rhyme so i already love this lol but the last line is also so beautiful to me, so full of conviction and forthright!
