TIP O1

Having a clear theme

Let’s start by talking about one very important factor in how to make your blog easy to read — clarity in your main theme/topic. One thing that is crucial to the understanding of your blog is having a clear theme to it. Whether it is stated in the title of your blog or somewhere in your introduction, you should let your readers know the main concept of your blog. This will help them get a general idea of what direction you will be taking in your writing, and the readers will be able to read the blog comfortably, knowing that they got the confirmation about what the topic truly is. When readers know what a blog’s topic is, it becomes much easier to understand what the writer is trying to express. It ends up becoming complicated when a writer is too vague in their ideas and it isn’t clear to readers what exactly they are talking about in their blog. This causes for readers to become confused, and they might even give up on reading the blog because they cannot grasp what the theme really is. Having a clear theme/topic to your blog will make it so much easier to read; with the help of adding an explanation into some part at the beginning of your blog, the ideas you convey in the blog will be understood in a better way by all readers. Planning out your topic: this is also a great first step to take in starting your blog. The first thing you should do before writing a blog is planning out the blog’s topic, because this way, all your ideas will be correlated with each other. By planning your topic out, your ideas will also be well thought through; your blog will be easy to read and to understand.

TIP O2

Having proper formatting

Formatting is actually a very important part of making one’s blog easier to read. The first thing people notice when clicking on a blog is the way it is formatted. Whether that means the background colour or the first couple pictures, readers observe the formatting to a blog quite early after opening it. This has even become something I do subconsciously after clicking onto a blog now. It is important to format your b a way that does not complicate the reading in any way shape or form. Firstly, when choosing a background colour, you should avoid using bright colours that could be sore on the eyes. These colours could be anything between bright red to bright green to bright yellows and so much more. When picking a colour, ensure that the text of your blog is still properly visible and that you do not have to strain your eyes to be able to read it. Soemtimes, colours will be bright but the text will still be in white and that makes it very hard to read the words. This makes the reading process so much more complicated and readers might click off your blog if this occurs. If you are unsure what colour to pick, go for a more muted one; the control pannels allow for a lot of colour options, so feel free to play with them until you reach a colour that fits and that is comfortable on the eyes. You can even go with a white background if you are completely unsure about which road to take; you can never go wrong with a simple white background ( like this one; i didn’t pick a background colour so it’s the default one ).

Next, if you are including pictures in your blog, it has often been recommended that they do not take over too much of the screen. If pictures are too big, they will look chunky on the screen and the reader will have to scroll very far to get to the next part of the blog. If you want to add a big picture to your blog, put it onto a white background so that it does not overtake all of a ’s screen when reading the blog. When pictures take too much space, it makes the blog harder to read because this distracts the reader. Pictures that take up a lot of space have the ability to break a reader out of their trance and confuse them; they are unexpected. When making dividers for your blog, ensure that they are on the smaller side so they do not take up too much space on the screen. This way, readers can comfortably look through your blog. With a couple minutes on picsart, you can put the picture you want onto a background the same colour as your blog background; this way, the pictures take up less space in your blog. Another thing to consider is the fonts you might use. Some fonts are not readable on all devices, and some are not recognizable in text-to-speech, which all in all causes problems. Avoiding fonts in your actual writing would be a good route to go; that way, everyone is able to read your blog and it is easy for everyone to understand. Since some fonts are not recognized by all devices, it can make question mark boxes appear in the area of the text and that can drive a reader away. It is important to be able to read all of a blog to not miss any important information that could come with it. Everyone should get the equal opportunity to read the content that is posted by s on ka, so avoiding fonts all together is a good way to go.

Notice how the picture on the left makes the blog look bulky and how it takes up a lot of space.

TIP O3

Seperating your bto sections

Another thing that can help make your blogs easier to read is separating them into sections. When blogs are separated into sections, it makes the reader process so much easier; this way, the reader can take the blog one section at a time. By also including the section’s titles, it helps the reader know what they are about. For example, in an appreciation blog, one section could be “vocals” and thus the reader would know what it is about. Or for a more concrete example, take a look at this blog right now. All of my ideas were divided into sections to simplify the reading. I titled all my sections so readers know exactly what they are about. When blogs are not divided into sections, it gives the reader a lot of information all at once. This ends up being a lot to look at, and it can also drive some people away. I sometimes get intimidated by *very* long paragraphs and i always prefer when blogs are seperated so that i can take in the information slowly. By separating your blogs into sections, you are also allowing yourself to organize your ideas. The first thing I do whenever I am planning a blog is to write down all the sections I want to include in it. This allows me to know what I wish to talk about before I start writing; it helps me stay organized and so I don’t end up forgetting one. With sections in a blog, it breaks up each part and allows the reader to move on to another section feeling fulfilled. When all the parts of a blog are separated into their own sections, it gives the blog a more organized feel and all in all makes it easier to read. Sections also help readers keep track of some of the different topics in blogs. Personally, I always separate my blogs into sections so that I myself feel more organized; thishas always been the way that I do it. This way, it makes my blog more pleasant than to look at, and it keeps it more organized — thus making it easier to read.

TIP O4

Fluidity

Next, we have fluidity in your ideas and in your words. It is important to keep your words fluid whenever you are writing your blogs. This makes it so much easier to read, and also helps your words flow better. When a blog has fluid writing, the reader is able to easily understand the ideas and concepts that are being transmitted to them. Another part of fluidity is having ideas that connect to one another; this way, your blog as a whole makes sense and everything is within the same subject ( just like when we discussed having a clear theme ). As bloggers, we have to guide readers through our ideas. To do that successfully, it is important to keep you blog flowing the right way. It is important for you ideas and topics to all be connected to each other in some type of way; readers won’t get confused and they will be able to enjoy your blog. If it is not obvious how the ideas of your blog work with one another, try to explain how they are connected to the rest of your writing. When all the ideas to a blog are connected, it leaves out the possible confusion that a reader could experience. It is kind of shocking when a blog suddenly brings up something completely different than the rest of it, so to avoid that, it is good to ensure that that connection is there. Another way to be fluid in your writing is to avoid unnecessary rambles. Sure, it’s completely okay to ramble in a blog that is about rambles for an idol/group, but if that’s not the focus of your blog, it should be avoided. Rambling confuses readers sometimes. It is easy to lose track of the original idea when rambling is involved; the reader is going to be reading through so much and could lose track. If you feel that you are rambling in your blog, stop to see just how much and judge if you should continue your train of thought or not. It’s easy to get off track with the main idea — it’s happened to us all — so keeping your ideas fluid will allow your blog be neat and easy to read.

honestly the biggest turn off from long blogs for me is lack of paragraphing. you mentioned here sectioning your bto different topics and I agree that that's definitely important for guiding the reader, but even within those topic sections, I wish people would use paragraphs more regularly as I have a lot of trouble reading large chunks of writing. I often find myself clicking off of blogs before I've even gotten through their first section because of this issue

yeah my eyes glaze over lol, n I lose what line I'm reading on repeatedly. even tho length of paragraphs is up to the writer and what vibe they're going for, if ur writing a longer piece for a broad audience (eg an amino blog) then it's best to paragraph every 5 sentences or so
