My Air Meditation

I have always adored studying the elements.

This is probably from watching Avatar: The Last Airbender almost religiously as a kid. But really it’s so much more than that. I have felt my whole life like I was somehow tied to the wind. When it blew, I felt what then and now I only know how to describe as magick. It was like a calling to my very soul. When I was in elementary school, I sometimes convinced myself that I could actually (slightly) control the wind with my mind XD. In middle school, when I discovered the Percy Jackson Series, I sometimes thought I was the child of Zephyr. If only! But as I grew older I put my intense connection aside under some assumption that growing up meant putting away “childish obsessions.” And that was all before I even knew that I was a Libra sun, Gemini moon (both air signs lol).

But now that I have found paganism and witchcraft, I am able to re with my young instincts. I hope to one day feel as connected to the wind as I did as a child, because honestly it’s harder to feel as deeply as when you did as a child. But through my craft I can slowly rebuild that relationship. Still, air guides me.

One day a year ago I was very anxious and decided to do some meditation. I was recently doing a lot of reading on the elements so I decided to turn to Air as the center of my meditation. Below is an entry from my Book of Shadows (which I keep digitally on a desktop app called Evernote) from 3/28/19 where I describe what I felt and saw during that meditation and how Air helped elevate my understanding and bring me peace.

"Today I decided to meditate on the concept of wind; air; atmosphere. I was doing so when i got a vision in my head of white circle. Kinda like the light from a makeup mirror; it flashed then quickly faded away, like how the light from an old timey camera would. Anyway, this struck me as I've seen this before occasionally while kissing my girlfriend. I always took it as a symbol of connection; a representation of how it feels to connect with someone you love and care for and respect deeply. So I started thinking of air in of connection. That's when I realized that air really connects everything. We all need some aspect of the atmosphere to live, even trees. Every single person you see has air in their lungs just like you. Just like me. So, air is a mode of connection.

Another thought I had was that wind does not cut, does not tear, does not burn or erode or smash. It does two things: it pulls and it pushes. Just like breathing in and breathing out. With wind, we can pull things towards us or push them away. We can stir, we can change where things are in relativity to us; we can let things enter our being or let them through us and blow away. Just like breathing in and breathing out. Isn't that essentially the meaning behind when people say to contemplate positive energy when you breathe in and negative energy when you breathe out in meditations? I think it can be expanded upon.

For example, when I was walking to do laundry earlier, I got an intrusive thought about my housemates hating me. This is pure insecurity on my part, and I know that, but it still affects me. I thought about it like this: first applying the first aspect of air I mentioned, we are all connected and essentially not too different. We all have needs and wants but for the most part ( and this might be my satanism coming out ) just want to go about our lives with little interruption. This allowed me to think of my housemates more neutrally. Why should I assume hatred?

Then, using the second aspect of wind, I let the thought flow through me. I imagine a gust of wind ing through me carrying the sentiment away and I allowed it to fly from my mind in exchange for hopefulness.”

I hope any of that wisdom meant something to you. I think we would all benefit from taking the time to meditate on ALL of the elements. Merry Part~

The movie was extremely intriguing to me (terrible acting, though). I LOVED the whole concept of it, and it’s what actually sparked my interest into looking into the elements more. This was before I was a Christopagan so I had no direction and my search went stagnant
