Demon slayer OC art !!

Hello AA(Anime Amino)! Just wanted to share a recent drawing I did of my Demon Slayer OC, along with some process pictures. I hope you guys like it^^

Reference photo

I found this reference on Pinterest and immediately thought to try and make a piece with my KNY OC 'Mayu,' which I posted before this specific post.

Sketch

In all honesty, I had a hard time with this pose as I'm not used to more close pictures, especially with weapons. It took multiple tries and went back and forth between the reference picture and the canvas. In the end, though, I think I did pretty good^^

Line work

In this stage of the process, I had to reposition her hand to what I felt was more proportional (at least in my eyes) and made her arm closer to her head. I had quite a hard time doing the folds of her haori and the sleeves of her uniform since I'm still in the process of learning how folds work.

Color Blocking

The laso fill tool was my savior in this piece as I can get really impatient when it comes to this step.

Shading

In my style, I prefer using 2 colors to shade a pink/red tone with a lowered opacity and a purple to shade on top of it. This was and always has been one of my least favorite parts when doing a piece.

The shading for her clothes and sword confused and frustrated me greatly, as I don't have much knowledge when it comes to shading these things. Again, the laso tool helped a lot, especially with shading their clothing.

Background

This was the part where I regretted not doing the background before coloring the main subject. Really, it was because I didn't plan on adding a background at all. I've always had a hard time when it comes to backgrounds, and I intend on practicing more.

Last tweaks

This was supposed to be the finished work, but I felt like the shading was a bit off. Seeing how soft the light around her was, I was having a hard time deciding on how to approach this step. In the end, I just decided to lay out a flat black and lowered the opacity for the shading, which I think was just me taking the easy way out to finish this piece.
